What's the longest shot you've ever made on a Ground Squirrel?

While out last weekend, having non-hunter folks invade the area I was in (later in the morning) kinda ruined my chances at calling a coyote, so went into a ravine I was familiar with and began to target practicing on Ground Squirrels to alleviate my frustration with the day. Never done that before, soo much fun making cross ravine shot on them! Farthest that day was 92 yards. Shooting off Redhead Kwik Stiks. 20mph winds.

There was one that briefly offered a shot at 213yds, but he didn't stay still long enough for me to reposition the shooting sticks fast enough.

Anyhoo I was tickled pink to make the 92yds shot. So I got to thinking I wonder how far away the guys who do this a lot make shots on 'em? So thought I'd ask.

Hey you guys what a good Copper varmint round in .223 Rem? Like one of those VMax type of round with a polymer tip?

Got a couple types for the .17 HMR now just need stuff like that for the .223 like when the intent is to go coyote hunting.

Did I ever tell you guys about an Oversized Outdoorsman that screwed up a free youth hunt? He broke out a .22 mag from the back of his pickup and wanted to blast some ground grizzles that were 50 yards away. He was missing so badly that he didn’t even scare the little fur balls away. The youth hunter shot two squirrels and the outfitters daughter was popping them out to 175 yards with a .22 mag.

Then we went to feed him...... I still get a queasy at Mexican restaurants.

Was that 700yd for the yote also done with the same .204 Ruger rifle?

Yote was a 270 tsx reload that's near max pressure.

204 is a great caliber just go with a slow burning powder to stretch the barrel life...yes you need to reload now more than ever.....that load is at 3900fps out of the barrel. Scope is just a 4-18 power

Long shots are not what hunting is about in my book that's why only the trash gets those shots

Not sure, my 17 was a heavy barrel. I don’t weigh my gear.

Ok. Yeah my Savage is the Heavy Barrel one as well. I call that thing the "Laser Beam" because of how impressed I've been with that round. So cool to shoot a weapon you KNOW is more accurate than you are even physically capable of shooting it!
