Not exactly sure of the year, but I remember the day like it was yesterday. These pictures were of the double drake wood ducks that I shot sitting on the edge of a cattle tank in southern AZ. I was probably 11 or 12 at the time, shooting a winchester 20 gauge. These boys swooped in over my head to land, and I shot at one, and both fell! Huge deal for a kid, not to mention they were wood ducks - we haven't shot another wood duck in the last 16 years in AZ. On top of it all, they were both banded! Here's where the story gets sad. We didn't know what the bands were, or what to do with them but my dad kept them anyway.
Over the last few years, as I have been getting more into waterfowling, I set a standing goal for myself to get a band to put on my lanyard.... I had forgotten about the banded wood ducks that I shot 16 years ago. When I realized this, I frantically called my dad to see if he still had the bands but he couldn't find them. They may turn up someday, but at least we were able to find the pictures, including the proof that at least one of them was banded

.
Still makes me a little sick thinking about those bands and not being able to find them...
Pretty cool Jake! Two banded Woodies @ 12 y/o in So. Arizona none the less! :beer-toast:
