Hate to be the guy blaming his tools but could there be something wrong with my bullets?

I'm using Calibri .22s and twice I've put multiple bullets in a rabbit only to watch it run away. Today, one ran away dragging a leg. :(

Of course a headshot is best but shouldn't these things be stopped with a few shots to the body?

Body shots with a .22 are not going to stop many critters in their tracks. It's a very very small hole. They will die, but as you saw, you will have to find where. For critters that can get to thick brush quickly, you need to drop them where they stand. I'd use a shotgun or take the time to make a headshot with the .22

I think it's your ammo, not the caliber. A pellet from a good air rifle probably has more energy than those things. Are you shooting somewhere where you can't make noise? I kill cottontails allover my property with cheap American Eagle 38Gr HP. They don't go far no matter where they are hit.

CCI makes a good hollow point .22 as well. I got a few prairie dogs with them this last weekend. Both head and body shots, they never made it too far, one or 2 made it back to the hole but the blood trail was well defined.

Cottontail and, yes, shooting on private land where neighbors like the silent bullets.
