Put in yesterday for me, wife and son
Barbary  good chance for 1-2 tags
Ibex  Son has 10% chance, adults 1%
Oryx  fair chance of off range 18%  2% to get my OIL
Deer  good chance for crappy units, good for Zach on youth
Elk  Fair odds 10% -15% for a bull tag
Big horn less than 1%

Should end up with a few tags, and maybe a surprise or 2 in NM

will pass on javelina, thinking about passing on prong horn also.  Hard to get excited about them.

Elk- good local units bulls10-35% odds with LO cow tag as backup.
Deer- local units ,not many deer, easy draw........or is that crappy units Paul?
Deer are getting real tuff here, elk seem to be doing real good here.
Oryx- if I can swing it.....

2C rifle first choice, but, 2nd and 3rd is crappy unit for deer.  Can always eat the tag if I can come up with a better hunt.

I thought of 17,good bucks. But It looks like I'll be busy helping with elk hunts,so I'll stick close to home. There are some decent bucks here, but not many.  Elk,no problem finding them usually .

NM is on my radar for sure for a late season cow tag, but have to do a bunch of research on that, not even sure if they exist.  September - mid October is insane at work for me...

Good luck fellas!

NR cannot apply for cow elk tags in NM.  You can buy landowner tags, but, they have gone up in price.
NM still gives NR same status as resident in Ibex, Orys and big horn draw, but, cut back % to NR unless in outfitter pool.

Hatch, some good youth hunts fo sho.

Hank – I might pick your brain about 17 and someothers. We’re looking at checking the western side of the Gila and the SW corner units. We were planning on 27 for a mz deer hunt, but my brother was down there a few weeks ago and said it was wide open with lots of private property.

BC, LO cow tags/authorazations available, even to NR as Paul stated. Usually $200-500 depending on property and if is RO or UW.   Plus license$65/habitat/public lands$10  and tag/permit fee. Not sure of current fee to NR as it is listed not available for draw. Will find out the fee as I have some for my place. Good Oct 1st-Dec31st here. Apply for draw on bulls and use LO cow tag as backup, thats what I do.

Figuring out what we want to do this year. Most likely Elk and thinking about hunting a area new to us.

So I have to pay $354 + what the land owner sells the tag for?
Yup.  I am thinking the cow tags in my unit will be over $600.  I know lots of people could not find them last year and they were willing to spend more than that.
Sometimes you can do better on a private ranch.  If you do some looking you may get something as little as $400, but, you got to be real careful about the ranch you get.

Plus hunting lic. and habitat stamps. Sounds costly, but cheaper than most states.
Hell, I got tired of not drawing in CA and went the LO cow tag route, that hunt was $1600 for 2 days,I paid $800 to my buddy that runs the ranch. That didn't include lic.
