How to get raccoon out of attic?

I have a raccoon in my attic. I have roofers coming to fix the hole it’s going in after i get it out.
I set a trap last night with no success. I mixed dry dog food with peanut butter.
I guess i probably have to keep trying.
Second question, my attic is low and you have to crawl to get to where the raccoon den is.
How do i know if there are babies?
