Hey guys,
I’ve never really explored the Eastern Sierra’s but plan to remedy that this Memorial Day weekend (5/29) and do some trout fishing. Was planning on camping, but with the cold nights and a 6 month old in tow…. Going to go cabin/hotel route. Right now was checking out some cabins and looks like Lake Mary and Lake George have some, And then Convict Lake has some (and maybe I don’t’ have to deal with the skiing crowds at Mammoth). Figure a few of you guys probably have some experience here, any recommendations?

I like the june loop, little less crowded, a little cheaper, and you can fish all the lakes in the same day.Just Google june lake accommodation and we like to stay at the sierra suns.

We have stayed at bishop creek area. A little closer and not as crowded. Stream fishing and three lakes to try. They stock Alpers trout.

Honestly Tom, a lot of that area is absolutely great. You will be happy with wherever you end up. Get ready to fall in love with the eastern sierra

I almost always camped up there. Stayed at a few places over the years that I can't remember. Crashed at friends in Mammoth before when doing bonsai overnight hunting trips.

Soak it in with the new baby.

If you're planning a stay in TOML don't forget to include the 13% TOT in your budget. It's one of the reasons I don't stay in Mammoth anymore, unless it's at a friend's place.

Cardinal Village in Aspendale (Bishop Creek) nothing is cheap once you leave the valley floor but its nice try a couple different places and move around all of them are nice. Rock Creek lake has some cabins and home made pies and the fishing is great.

You may want to take a look at Mammothdirect.com. You can get great deals sometimes in the summer but a holiday with ski season going strong will ruin that. I've spent a ton of time between Bishop and Bport in tents, truck beds, motels and hotels and avoided Mammoth for a long time because of the tree hugger crowds. Eventually I realized it's great if you want options and it's an easy drive for every day's adventure.

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone! June Lake wasn't even on my radar at the time. Lot's of options. Emailed a few nice properties on vrbo, we'll see what comes back. Still some resorts you guys recommend with openings as well.

And Steve, I'll need to stop by Tom's Place for sure... gotta get a hat :smiley-wnk-yellow:

I've always been partial to the Bishop Creek area. When we do cabins, we would do Parcher's Resort. A little pricey, but great experience. I usually camp at the Willows Campground right below Parchers.
