Lucky dog. That is brutal terrain around there. Has he been checked for a chip? Did you call the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter to see if anyone filed a report?
As a side note, besides being chipped, always, always, always have a brass plate riveted on your dog's collar with your name (not the dogs name) and phone number. Preferably also a backup phone number for someone reliable who can act if you're missing.
