Not much to the story , first few stalks of the day on better bucks were busts mostly due to wind and does. About noon I make the stupid decision to diagonally cross a 1.5x2 mile section of public to reach what appears to be a creek bed in the far corner. Put the stalk on several really good bucks along the way but every time I got busted by the does.. Caught this guy bedded up a draw all by himself, as I crested the ridge he stood up, I was wearing the lope hat and shirt from mt decoy so I ducked just showing my head. Waited about 2 mins and then ranged him, he was 78 yards and staring right at me. I glassed him and new it was opening day and I had already been within 80 yards of three bucks twice his size, and then it happened... He made that noise... I hate that noise.. It's as if he was calling me out... So knowing his curiosity might get the best of him I backed down away out of his sight...waited 5 mins and came back up, he had moved about 15 yards closer and to the left.. Now here's where it gets western.. I range him (61) yards, my buddy had just missed a good buck at 40 due to the wind, wind was a little lighter here but I guessed it around 15-20, I have practiced a bit in the wind and felt pretty confident. Lope was slightly quartering to the wind, I came to full draw he ran about ten yards still quartering slightly away, so I set my 60 yard pin right on the center of his head to compensate for drop and wind drift in to the vitals and... Released ..... And.... Wait for it... Thump hit exactly where I was aiming... 100 grain muzzy right thru the dome... Dead city, good night nurse... He fell over like a silhouette target at a bow competition...and then I drug his fat arse out in 90 degree weather... Felt like I was back in the 15 .. Can't wait for the snow to arrive..
