Assailants taped beating of grad student
PHILADELPHIA, Jan 24, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Four Philadelphia high school
students have been charged with beating a Haitian graduate student and
videotaping themselves doing it.
The victim, an engineering student at Drexel University who was walking home
when he was assaulted, was so shaken that he wants to return to Haiti, police
said.
The high school students allegedly decided to attack someone because it was a
nice afternoon and they had been released from school after a half day, the
Philadelphia Inquirer reported. They taped themselves planning the attack.
"It's a very disturbing film," Lt. John F. Walker of Southwest Detectives'
Special Investigation Unit told the Inquirer. "It's just mind-boggling."
The four have been suspended from University City High School in addition to the
criminal charges. One was 18, two 17 and one 16.
The victim, who is slightly built, was beaten and then pushed between two parked
cars into traffic. He suffered a broken jaw.
