So now that we can no longer shoot the ammunition we have stockpiled for years, I'm wondering what people are using for deer hunting this coming season. I know some of ya'll have already invested in non-lead while hunting the California Condor and was curious about results. Any noticeable difference in performance? I usually hunt with my Browning A-Bolt Hunter chambered in .300WSM but also have .308/.30-06. Any suggestions? Thanks much!

Think if you look up threads started by me about this subject I covered the nagger well, but with a 7mm.

Basically purchased 5 different manf. Bullets and took the range. Some shot well and others didn’t.

Field tests with a few critters under the crap bullets show that blood trails are non existent. Make the shot count!

As PC as things are today I would be sweating bullets (copper of course) typing that sentence.

I’m rifle shopping right now and since I don’t reload I went over to the ammo counter just to check prices on different calibers. Then I made a few calls to outdoors stores in some of the areas I hunt to see what they regularly stock. If you hunt an oddball caliber you’re going to pay $55+ a box and if you leave your ammo at home don’t expect to pull into a small town gun shop and buy a box.
Fins for breakfast, Feathers for lunch and Fur for dinner. A well balanced diet...

A co-worked asked why I wanted to kill a deer. I said "because they won't stay on the BBQ if I don't kill them first"

Seems the copper patterns higher (1-1.5 in), definitely doesn't leave as big a hole; and not much blood so you better kill. Other than that you can get pretty much the same speed, with the Remington copper vs. Remington core-locks. Only 2 I've really tried

How on earth it went from “it” to “the nagger” is beyond me, lol.... I covered it well- not the nagger.

And I wasn’t even texting and driving.

If a moderator could fix that- I would appreciate it!!!

I was shooting core lokt before and the copper was much much higher- but did group well along with the federal. For me and my Kmart rifle

Tikka .270 loves the GMX, but Barnes supposedly can get better expansion with slightly lower speeds (i.e. further out yonder).

Give me a bow, a topo and two weeks and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

I've used Barnes for years noe, and they are exceptional. Every animal I've shot with them has dropped in their tracks. The downside: my old Remington 700 gets overheated with just a few shots of solid copper. Modern barrels have no problem.

otc duckie..no reloading for this mammal shooter..no patients..usually whats ever rolling around on the floorboard gets stuffed into the weatherby..but to be fair..i have seen many critters go boom flop with copper..just gotta hit um in the throat..good night nurse!!!

So with what I'm reading here, this whole lead ban thing will make the enviros happy and the end result will actually be a lot more wounded big game running around in the woods. Then, the animal rights wackos will attack the hunter for unethical hunting and get an all-out hunting ban in Commufornia. I hate California!

I like how they make you 'check' the box in licensing now...No way you can tell anyone you didn't know about the 'lead' ban!  Someone was actually thinking on that one...However, I have a boat load of lead to target practice with... :smiley-w00t:
