Hello to my friends in Socal!

Happy New Year as well...

As I sit in my trailer in the south Grasslands, I got to thinking that I haven’t stayed up to date on the going’s on at Wister.

The last couple of months were a blur but still getting out often. For us in the grasslands, 60-65% of the bag yearly is teal. By mid December, we usually see them arrive in flocks, and can expect great shooting on them, as well as other ducks.

But, as I think we all know, it’s been a poor year for most. While there are differences from day to day, We started to see a few more teal this past week and I had a limit followed by 5. I pray this cold and weather we expect up here gets them moving.

And as I sit here, hoping for fuller skies, I wondered how things were looking for my desert hunting friends? Is it looking up at all down your way?

I wish you all a great new year, and a last month filled with birds on the strap, and memories to cherish.

Good Luck Utah!

My morning today was great!.  We got a WIND along with overcast skies.  I was able to get my limit before it started to rain   :smiley_10sign:

At one point (of course AFTER I limited), I was treated to a Sprig Show. They were all over our blind - fighting the wind.  I was standing there and they could care less (they know when I am done) ha

They were about 10-15 yards Right Over Us.  Passed by and then fought their way back again to do it all over again.  Wonderful to see.

Not sure if things really are changing yet, but the wind, and the approaching storm definitely helped.

I think it may be raining at Wister today too?? If so, I hope it brought more than just a bunch of stuck trucks in the mud

Rick, best of luck to you the rest of the year.  It did rain at Wister, pretty much sprinkled the whole day.  Kinda squirlly getting back to camp.  It's been hit or miss all year down here, but still enjoying the time out in the marsh.

Thx Rudso

Good morning last Wed.

All teal limit... ( tried for all drakes but pulled out a hen on a double).

The bonus was the Aleutian goose! That was fun!
