Went onto the State Parks Reservation site, and the earliest I could get a campsite was October 8 (2 months out.)  Is that the new lead time?

My Middle child is headed off to college and I wanted to take her on one last trip before she departs.  I hate to do it on a 3 day weekend but it looks like Labor Day is my  best option.

Any Ideas for places to go.  I really liked the idea of Jed Smith up by Crescent City but Realistically Humboldt County is more in range....

That's not bad at all. It's usually 6 months as my wifey is up late p.m./early a.m. on Jan 1 to try and get reservations for popular locations in June/July. It's ridiculous, but everyone has to play that game.
Any day in the outdoors is a damn good day.

Look into Sylvan Harbor.  They have basic cabins there very reasonable  .  It is right by Trindad, Patricks Pt.  and within reach of Crescent City .    Nice folks .  I haul my boat over there  .... they have nice fish cleaning stations too.    Not super fancy but clean cabins , friendly and safe .  The price is right .
