19 Arizona points.  12 AW Late hunt on the fame Kaibab.  What could go wrong?  Tag soup is what.  This tag came with a lot of pressure.  Mostly because of how long it took to draw it.  I told myself I would not shoot anything smaller than my best buck a 185 4/8, unless it was old, heavy and had junk.  Nothing even close.

I hunted hunted/scouted hard for 11 days non stop.   Weather did not cooperate, but, you cant count on that anyhow.  Glad it's over.  Gonna focus on Coues in AZ going forward.

All that being said, I got some major thanks to throw out there.

One Track.  Brent Drove 9 hours from San Diego to help me on this hunt.  Last time I saw him was around a campfire at Tejon singing  as Pitdog played the Harmonica.   What a great sacrifice.  Brent killed a monster buck there about 15 years ago and knew the great spots.  We gave it hell before he had to head back to reality.  I cant thank him enough.

Got to thank Dick weed also.  He drove out 2 different times (12 hour drive each way) to help me on his weekends during finals week and week before.  Driving through the night just to be out there with me every free second he had.  His buddy Rodrigo came out with him the last time. Rod stayed out on Sunday so he could drive home with that night when tag expired. We Glassed our asses off covering huge areas.  Hiked into remote glassing spots way before daylight.  Best buck we saw was first weekend a 170 4x4 that I am still glad I did not shoot.  Zach got some great video of him, and I will try to figure out how to post some time.

Mostly we saw 3 year old bucks tending does.  The big boys never showed up.  Some outfitters killed a couple absolute monsters on that hunt, but, I think overall it was dismal.

Brent glassing his eyeballs off.  You can see it was another hot day.  He had his shirt off getting a tan at one point.  Once a surfer always a surfer

Found 19 sheds while hunting there.  Shed rich environment.  Tempted to make a trip back there just for that.

Way to give it hell. If they would have been there, I am sure you would have found them.

You put in the effort and in the end were happy with the ones you didn't shoot...  That is a successful hunt for sure!  Now draw it with no points and go in with less pressure!

Brent is as solid as they come!

Sorry to hear it. I always look forward to reading about your and Zach's hunts.

Zach even skipped the first weekend of his coues deer hunt in order do drive out and help me. He has one weekend left.  I am at home catching up and then I am driving out to do some scouting for him.  Hope he can get one killed.

I can not even imagine the pressure it must have been but in the end like BC said if your happy with the ones you didn't shot then it was a good hunt. This just reaffirms to me and a few others that you and DW are human just like the rest of us!

I came in this world with nothing and thankfully still have most of it left

I'm not lost I'm just scouting

11 days of driving from Fredonia to the killing fields 1.5 hours each way and hiking into glassing spots way before daylight takes its tole.  It was almost like a sick obsession at one point.  Trying to categorize it as fun, but, it was more like a obsession.  If I ate the tag, I did not want to look back and think I slacked even one morning out evening.  We were working on about 5-6 hours sleep a night, and when DW drove out, he operated on no sleep.  It was a grind, but, I can say there was nothing else I could've done besides hire a guide.  That was not even considered.  If we could not do it, we were gonna go down swinging.  Honestly, very glad its over.  We have 3 decent tags left this year and I hated that Zach skipped 2 of the 4 days he could hunt his coues tag in NM, which was hard to draw also.

Damn, Paul. That sucks. The pressure to produce on that caliber of a hunt with a corresponding caliber of an animal is tough no doubt. Can't say you didn't invest the time
Any day in the outdoors is a damn good day.
