Yay tho I walk thru the valley I fear no evil for I am the baddest mofo in the valley! Honey Badger what?
Got a nice Princeton Tec I use, Petzl is backup. Yes I carry two. Two is one one is none.

The way my setup will be now... there will be 4.  Coleman headlamp, a handheld flashlight (currently deciding best choice among 4 possibilities), my Panther Vision Cap with the LED's in the visor, and a tiny little clip-on LED thing also from Panther Vision.

That is way too many! You need one, then take extra batteries. the reason to keep it on you is that there will be a time when you're separated from your pack and it's dark, reaching into your pocket and pulling out some light will be a treat.

Yep, many a "I am just going to peek over this rise" ends in taking off after something and if you have your weapon and headlamp on you at all times, you can make things happen and not get into trouble.

Just Ducky, I hear you amigo!

What?  The LED lighted cap doesn't add extra weight, nor does the tiny little 2 LED thing from them either! It runs off one CR2032 and gives 9hrs at 21 Lumens, and is the size of like a Quarter.

Definitely read you loud and clear about the "lemme just look over this rise.".  Thank you for that bit of insight.

And BOWHUNTR... whatever man :) I got a 9yo mouth to feed.  And I'm not quite as young as I was once.  The Moto/BMX/MTB crashes, and Weight-Lifting rips and tears, and having had Rheumatic Fever when I was a kid messing with my joints is catching up with me a bit.

My eyes got opened up to the importance of (loosely) following a game plan when I busted-up my wrist last year the day after Christmas.

Though I was able to handle that situation myself... Hiked back out, drove myself home from Azusa... it opened my eyes to just how EFF'd I'd be if it was like a leg or hip that got busted up.

I don't have a Satellite Beacon system (frankly because I don't think I need one for majority of the situations) so I figure sorta sticking to a pre-determined plan offers me enough of a degree of fault-tolerance for when SHTF.

The main point here is to only take what you need. We have learned that from years of experience and mostly from taking too much crap, too far for no reason. I take the bare minimum and love the simplicity of not overpacking. You need less than you think.

Right... sure.. bring a friend!   Sounds simple enough... until you consider that I'm about to hit 50 in a few years... just barely started the whole hunting thing in 2014... I work in software... and have been working out of my home alone in solitude since around 2001.  Acquaintences... sure...gotta lot of those. But something along the lines of what I'd call real "friends"... that' be down to go hunting with me?  Not really.  Though there have been a few great fellows I've met thru hunting forums and hunted with.  But timing and peoples schedules is always an issue isn't it?   So for most of the times I feel like I wanna get out there... (and GTFO of this 10x10 office room I do my time in) the only way it's gonna happen is if I suck it up and I make it happen m'damn self.  Which has really pushed me to do things I wasn't comfortable with. And I like that! As slowly they prove to you that you've had what it takes all along. And that you shouldn't be so nervous about it because you plan well enough that you've reasonably covered most needs that could possibily arise and surprise you.  Not proud about it.. it's just the way it is, so oh well.  So excuse the **** outta me if it sounds like I'm being overly cautious and bringin' too much stuff. I'm getting better about judging how much is too much all the time. And excuse me if... in my situation I feel I have to stay within certain more rigid guidelines since I'm going at it solo.  Sure beats being stuck inside a building another day, I'll tell ya that much.
