The bag filter works great with a base camp. If I'm on the move... I use a pump filter. I've used about a half a dozen different models and my favorite has been the MSR Sweetwater. Has a leverage handle pump and pumps fast. It can also be cleaned in the field and will act like a new filter in minutes. I've seen the Sawyer bag fail in the field and become useless. Ed F

I like the Katadyn hiker pro. I've used mine on a couple backpack hunts up in norcal. My buddy had the msr and we ended up using the katadyn exclusively cuz it would fill both our nalgene bottles before the msr would fill just 1. No worries on the pumping, its not that big of a deal. I've heard the gravity bags are pretty slick though. Just depends on if you move around a lot or stay at a central location.

Yes Im glad your looking for a water filter because I know a lot of guys who never think of bringing one on a trip. I've fallen in love with my Aquamira Frontier Pro Water filter. I know you can pick them up on GuerrillaOutfitter, com for not much at all. Its one of those things when you don't have it you'll probably end up needing lol!

Check the Sawyer squeeze me. Very light and compact. Not so good for very dirty water, clogs quickly with heavily sedimented water and can only be cleaned via back flow with clean water.. Good for clean mountain streams and lakes.

I have used this the last two years, and mostly in areas that aren't flowing.  I do however use cloth or the like to remove as much sediment as possible.  Haven't had an issue yet...

Give me a bow, a topo and two weeks and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

Just like hunting spots posted online, stupidity is searchable forever.

I know this is maybe a stupid question and a little off topic......But as a kid, I spent many hours in the Sierra's with my dad deer hunting & fishing......We rarely ever carried water with us......We drank out of streams & lakes.....Never got sick.....What has changed?
