My brothers and I have been using an MSR for years (we don't put many miles on it, though). You do have to clean the filter out every 2 quarts of water or so to keep the flow strong, but it works well. In the high country with the water coming right off a glacier, clean water, and few visitors, I
just add a few drops of bleach to my bottle, shake, and let it sit for 30 minutes. When the water is dirty, it's best to both filter and chem-treat.

Definitely a plethora of opportunity for ridicule across the board here.....I am trying to follow DK's advice to be mature....but the temptations to create humor are difficult to resist.

The Sawyer Mini Filter. Very small, weighs like nothing. And I like that their method is you fill-up the bag pouch... then filter the water in that pouch thru their screw-on device into your receiving container.  I was able to filter from a very thin layer of streaming water in D11 since I could scoop it into the bag first.

When you need 3 liters to fill your bladder and an extra gallon for camp, gravity or squeeze filters won't work. I don't think I'd trust my life in the back country to a Chinese filter. I'm sure they work but I gotta go with a name I know & trust already.

I'm really disappointed by the new owners of the MSR brand they seam to have gutted their product line and not a damn new product

I also have this filter and it has worked well for me. That being said, it takes a long time to fill my 100 oz bladder. I'd like to upgrade to something that can filter large amounts of water more quickly. Although I do like the option of using the Sawyer in line with the bladder. You can just fill up your bladder with creek water and attach the filter to your hose and drink directly from there. I just don't have the hose attachment for mine.
