I've owned several Jansport D2 backpacks since I first bought one new around 1975 or '76
I've sold lots of them on ebay and they are popular because they were built to last, free-standing and can carry huge loads.
They don't make'em like that anymore, or do they ? I was in San Diego on saturday and I always like to stop in at Adventure 16 to see what's new, and to my surprize ! a new Jansport D2 "retro" Although they brought it back, it's not quite the same but it's close.
The pics are of the original '70's models and are packed, ready for action in 6 weeks.

I have an old D5 from the 70's. Great pack to this day.
It's seen some miles.

Google Jansport D2 , D3 or D5 and read about them in backpacking forums, your testimony is repeated over and over again.

My Kelty Tioga was killing me. Then I bought the D5 with the hip system. The D5 is a bit small but I'm not very large anyway. Took it Goat hunting in AK. Somebody was over the other day and wanted to buy it. I told him hell no.
Best pack I've ever had. Then got one of the first MSR International stoves. That still works great. Then a Northface Down Ibex bag good to minus 15. Sounds like a fun trip. Tough but fun. A guy I know goes to Spain for Ibex.
Tough tough Country.

I wish it was less but winter gear is heavier than other seasons. Add to that the hunt gear and I'm at 45lbs. before water and gas. We won't be hunting from a base camp, we want to hunt the mountain tops and stay up there. Too steep to be going up & down every day.

I'm shooting for less than 30. Boys have been bugging me to get back in the game.
I'll use them as pack mules. Hey. You have a safe and fun trip.
