Anyone hunting elk in NM besides me,paulc, and sidepass? If you are you might rethink tactics,as it has been raining heavy in SW Mtns.Central highlands,North and in pauls area. Feed and water everywhere pretty much!! Let the locals and guides birddog them to you away from roads water holes and such....been seeing great antler growth, still in velvet. And they are up and feeding midday!

Hank, it should be drying up come end of Aug and Sept. I am hoping that the little waterholes still have water in them.

Still would like to pick up a archery tag or rifle tag for myself for unit 34.

Sold my cow tag today. Worse case scenario Zach has a primo tag for elk this year.

Hope it dries up some, roads are a bummer here.Seen a lot of folks stuck, scouting. But I'll take all we get, after not raining much the last 10 years here.Locals say it's going be something by Sept.,and they are talking early, heavy winter like last year.Never can tell here,as they say in NM,"If you don't like the weather, wait an hour,it'll change!!" Quite a light show tonight, between downpours. Good luck to you and Zach this year,I hope to catch up with sidepass when he shows here for his bow hunt, been looking around for him too.

I will be hunting for bull close to Paul C's unit on the first rifle this year. I was out during the 4th of July and was seeing good numbers in a few spots I hunted last year and have a few friends that are already seeing some nice bulls. I am planning on making another run out there for Labor Day weekend to do some more scouting. I wish my hunt started tomorrow!!
