It's a start, but amazing how the place recovers with some rain.Everyone thought I had moved to a desert. This high mesa country with PJ's and the short grass prairie is awesome. Wish I had some ponerosas on it,but they are nearby. You got any wild rasberries and strawberries around you paul?

Just up the canyon.

I am at 7200 feet. Have P&J, Ponderosa, Fir, oak and scrub oak, cactus, yuccas, prickly pear, horny toads, Elderberry,. Real transition area. This has been a good year for moisture so far. Another 4/10s today.

I'm @ 7440' @ homesite. The ponderosas are on the mesas and in some canyons, the homesteaders used most of them for their dugout cabins. Some of the pinyons and junipers are 30' tall.BLM biologist says they will work for turkey roosts. They want to relocate some in here. Trying to get seed and seedlings from NRCS in Datil.Have some elderberries , cottonwoods, willows lined up for transplant. And a few aspens.Going to collect some mountain mohagany seeds when they show.Have a nearby mesa with a bunch...deer HH. Rained heavy last night, what a lightshow!! Got about 5/10 and more today it looks.

Aspens may be tough to get going at that elevation, but, your farther north so it may work. We got them over 7800 feet here.

Mt Mahogony will be awesome for the deer. 30' tree should be great for turkeys. We walked into a momma and babies this morning.
the babies started flying I thought they were quail and then mom erupted about 10 yards from us. Turkeys are fun to watch. Keep the bob cats and coyotes thinned out.

Ponderosas are the worse for fire wood, but, I do like them because they are tall stately.

I'll put the aspens near the homesite and water.Love those trees!!Guy I work with has some is source of the narrowleaf cottonwoods and willows. He is down along Largo creek. The turks will be a good addition to area.BLM wants to put in some quail too. One of my neighbors is a trapper so the yotes and bobcats are sort of in check, that and me....A bear has been bugging folks down the rd a few miles. Lions are active here and a big one I have seen took down a neighbors horse this winter.BIG cat. Found an antelope skeleton on my place the other day.A herd had been here for a few weeks ,now elsewhere. Rattlers have been very active and I don't stroll around at night like I was....these are Mojave Greens...no bueno!!

After getting alot of rain with the monsoons the last couple weeks,we got deluged at my place this afternoon and my creeks flowed and my pond filled ...in an hour. Getting very green now too. Received my solar pump yesterday and will be working on getting the old windmill pump and pipe out to install new system.I'll be setting up game cam by pond now. The antler growth has been great so far too.New digital camera on way,I'll post some pics soon.

The well sounds like a big project. We got 2.5" of rain in a hour and a half while I was in KA this week. All the tanks filled up close to the house. Big water running. Not to much got messed up though.

I had figured to do it myself with comalong, but can't chance losing it into the casing so I found a local to help at a reasonable rate. Got about 3" in a couple hrs. Not much damage, but rd to ranch is real muddy, almost had to chain up to get out this morn. Couldn't figure out all the noise last nite...frogs,tons of them.Whole valley is resonating. My big pond/tank is 60+ft x 30ft,12 'deep, still flowing in and out good today. Elk tracks at all the pools along the rd. More rain today and all this week, going to be real green this season, my grass is already a ft high in places. And all the water will change my hunt tactics this fall, don't have to sit on a tank like most folks do.

Hank, been sitting on waterholes for bear. Have heard a bunch of sorry bugles. I think it is just the juvenile males practicing with their pipes.

We got about 5" rain in last 10 days. Some of my neighbors driveways are down in the creek now. Lots of water. Makes sitting on a waterhole waiting for a bear kind of a waste of time.

Yeah it rained from3pm til about 10pm here yesterday,a good soaker. Alot of stock tanks in the area have blown out,but not mine luckily. The cutoff bugles do seem to be the little guys, and some cows ,they make a sort of bugle calling the calves together. With the bigger bulls its like a deep extended mew, just talking to the other elk. They stay pretty silent most of the time. We've been getting bear activity around the local ranches and the "tracts" as they call some of the developed places. After pet food. One was in Quemado the other morning.
